Our Lodge

Montreal Kilwinning Lodge Instituted in 1860, first under the Registry of the Grand Lodge of Canada and then in 1869 transferred to be registered under the (GLQ) Grand Lodge of Quebec.

It is a vibrant organization founded upon the high values of ancient freemasonry; integrity, friendship, respect, and charity.

We meet at the Montreal Masonic Temple, and our mission is to provide a welcoming and fraternal environment where fellowship among men of honor is the cornerstone of our activities.

We offer the benefits of a life-long friendship with a group of men who share an interest in living according to a shared moral outlook and mutual support.

For over three centuries, Freemasonry has been a platform for self-development and personal growth, helping to make good men even better.

Montreal Kilwinning Lodge remains committed to the core values mentioned above and to having a positive impact on the lives of our current and future members.

History

Our History

Kilwinning Lodge held its first meeting on January 9th of 1860 and, at the time, our lodge was recognized with the # 124 under the Canada registry.

Upon the creation of the GLQ (Grand Lodge of Quebec), the registration changed to # 13 and subsequently in 1877 changed to # 20 under the current Quebec Grand Lodge registry.

Our lodge is the offspring of Elgin Lodge # 348 of Montreal under the registry of Scotland, where most of our founders were members.

Other founding members hailed from Zetland Lodge # 21 under the Register of Canada, thus setting the basis of our Scottish tradition.

The name Kilwinning not only affirms our Scottish heritage, it also connects us with Mother Kilwinning Lodge # 0 and Kilwinning, Scotland, which was the birthplace of our first Worshipful Master, V W Bro. John Boyd.

Over the last 160 years, Kilwinning lodge has been very active in fostering freemasonry in Quebec.

The lodge has provided sponsorship for the formation of several prominent Masonic lodges in Montreal and its surroundings, such as Victoria # 26, Mount Royal # 32, St Charles # 44, Chateauguay # 36, Ionic # 54, and Hudson Lodge #98.

Throughout our 160-year history, our members have contributed to promoting masonry as a pillar of morality, virtue, and leadership, and an example of such contribution is evidenced in by the election in 1889 of Most Worshipful Brother Isaac Henry Stearns, one of our very own.

Throughout our lodge history, our members have also contributed to our country's military efforts, with nineteen members making the ultimate sacrifice in action during World War One & nine members in World War Two.
